Nearly two years ago, the death of a 21-year-old Chinese Canadian student Elisa Lam baffled the world. She disappeared suddenly and was gone for nearly a month. After that month, her body was found floating in a water tank above the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, where she had been staying.

The web took particular interest in this case, as this security footage from the elevator of the Cecil Hotel was uploaded onto the internet. It features Lam possibly moments before her death.

The video shows Lam peeking in and out of an elevator, as if hiding from somebody.

At one point, she presses all of the buttons to the elevator before stepping out of it. She then contorted her body in bizarre ways as if possessed by a phantom. It left many people wondering who (or what) killed this poor girl.

There are a couple interesting things regarding Elisa Lam”s case that baffle authorities.

1. The Cecil Hotel was also the last place Elizabeth Short, victim of the Black Dahlia Murder, was seen. It was also once the home of both Richard Ramirez, the “Night Stalker,” and Jack Unterweger, both serial killers.

2. Not only did the hotel have a dark past, but Lam struggled with bipolar disorder and had to take a combination of prescription drugs. (This could have explained her odd behavior.)

3. The mystery of how her body got in the tank has never been solved. Roof access was restricted to only those with a key and the tanks themselves required a ladder that was not present during the discovery of her body.

One thing is for sure, this is a very strange case. Although the video has been viewed almost 8 million times, nobody seems to be able to get to the bottom of it.
